Peter
Peter asked his best friend
'What do you see?'
When you walk down by the river
'What do you see?'
Do you hear voices, are there footsteps in your way?
Do you see people, like I see, everyday?
Is there a hushed whisper, at the back of your mind?
Can you see through it, because I feel blind
I know there's someone out there
Watching me
Just because I can't prove it
Doesn't make me feel free
--
And I'm scared every minute of the day
Because someone has taught me to be that way
I'm scared of things that I don't like
And I need someone to keep me safe at night
--
Don't be so excited, Peter's friend says with a sneer
I know everyone that's always lived round here
And they don't scare me, I see them everyday
And I will be the first to chase them away
--
And I'm not scared every minute of the day
Because no-one has taught me to be this way
I'm not scared of things that I don't like
And I'll be the one, to help you sleep at night
--
But it's not that simple, says Peter with a cry
There's things out things, bigger than you and I
There are planes and bombs and microscopes
And people know where I live
And once they find me, they've got no reason to forgive
