Susan
Susan treading the driveway at four in the morning causes the light to come on
But the key in the yale lock doesn’t work
As she struggles with the door handle she’s trying not to let anyone know
Anyone know that it’s her
She can hear her mum sleeping, her Dad quiet as a rat
She should have been home hours ago but she couldn’t make herself turn back
As she creeps up to her room her mobile phone vibrates in the pocket of her coat
She flips the front to see who her message is from,
To see if the night’s been a result
There are three messages waiting, two wondering where she is
But the third one matters, because it’s his
-
She’s Daddies little girl
Not the kind to lose her temper, or ever hurt herself
She’s Daddies little girl,
And somehow she can fall somewhere else
--
She knows this guy called Peter who knows her brother Paul
And she’d seen him around
On her way out tonight she thought she give him a call
And meet him in town
They went to a dark bar, he bought all the drinks,
The rest of the night is a dark blur, now she’s trying to make herself think
--
She remembers conversation, then she was on her way home
And everything else isn’t there
She gets ready for bed and she’s brushing the comb
Brushing it though her hair
She sees some cuts and a bruise on her neck
And some dark markings, she’d never noticed that
--
She’s Daddies little girl
Not the kind to lose her temper, or ever hurt herself
She’s Daddies little girl,
And somehow she can fall somewhere else
--
So what happened this evening out at the bar
She hasn’t got a clue
But she can’t sleep and she keeps thinking,
But what she’s thinking can’t be true
He was such a nice man, bought all the drinks
Now it’s slowly dawning what everyone will think
--
So she switches her phone on again and it simply says
Thanks for a great time
She doesn’t know what time he had,
But it was a different time
She’s feels certain, she’ll never see him again
Never again will she feel close to a man
--
She’s Daddies little girl
Not the kind to lose her temper, or ever hurt herself
She’s Daddies little girl,
And somehow she can fall somewhere else
